Care Instructions
Light
Philodendrons do well in semi-shade to bright, indirect light. While they can tolerate lower light levels, they’ll thrive in a brighter room. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch their leaves.
Watering
Water your philodendron when the top two inches of soil feel dry. Use room-temperature water and ensure even distribution across the soil. Clear pots can help you monitor moisture levels and avoid overwatering. Always let excess water drain completely to prevent root rot.
Humidity
Philodendrons prefer high humidity, but they’re adaptable to average indoor conditions.
Use a humidifier or place the plant in naturally humid areas like bathrooms or kitchens.
If needed, set up a pebble tray to increase humidity.
Temperature
These tropical plants thrive in temperatures between 65–85°F. Keep them away from drafts, air conditioners, and heaters. If you’re comfortable, your philodendron will be too.
Feeding
Feed your philodendron every two weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced fertilizer. During fall and winter, when growth slows, fertilizing isn’t necessary.
Maintenance Tips
Pruning
Philodendrons benefit from occasional pruning. Trim back overgrown stems and remove any yellowing or damaged leaves to keep the plant looking its best.
Repotting
Repot your philodendron when its roots start poking out of the drainage holes. Choose a pot that’s just slightly larger than the current one and refresh the soil with a tropical aroid mix.
Common Problems and Solutions
Yellow Leaves
Cause: Overwatering or low light.
Solution: Let the soil dry out more between waterings and move the plant to a brighter location.
Brown Edges
Cause: Low humidity or irregular watering.
Solution: Increase humidity and maintain consistent watering.
Leggy Growth
Cause: Insufficient light.
Solution: Place the plant in a spot with bright, indirect sunlight.
